Fish is obviously fundamental to the gastronomy of the coast in Abruzzo.
Of course, you can taste many varieties of fish prepared in different ways, but fish soup is a typical dish of the region.
 
 

The “brodetto di pesce” is a tasty soup that may include shellfish, prawns, cuttlefish, codfish, mullet, sole, ect. It is prepared in a slightly different way in different areas. Anyhow, the main ingredients of the soup are olive oil, tomato, garlic and hot chilli pepper.

The “scapece” is a typical dish you can order in Vasto, consisting of floured pieces of fish (most often ray), fried and marinated in vinegar. This is the only dish of the region flavoured with saffron.
